International Vibe

Effortlessly transporting listeners from Bombay to the Caribbean to Western Africa, the duo known as the Thievery Corporation have been seamlessly blending international styles and genres since the groups inception in 1995. Here is just a taste but check out their website or anytime they spin at their D.C. nightclub The Eighteenth St. Lounge for a hell of a show.

Although they started their journey a year later and about 4500 miles away, the same could be said about a British duo The Groove Armada(Andy Cato and Tom Findley) who have definitely been cranking out quality music as well.

Lupe Fiasco new tracks

Lupe has been slightly absent from the mainstream recently trying to come up with a new name for his album. Then he's gotta start working on it... j/k Originally titled LupE.N.D, the album has undergone several changes to what now is called Lasers = Love always shines remember to smile. Several of the tracks from Lasers have been leaked already some as early as Jan 2010 so I am a bit late with this. The album features Kenna as well as The Neptunes, i'm sure there are some others that we aren't aware of yet as well. Three tracks for you below from the new album, check them out and grab them if you'd like. Lupe is one of the few artists that I can thoroughly enjoy listening to the whole album so I'm personally stoked for this bad boy to drop. Like many albums, Lasers is tied down until Lupe's label decides that it is time to cut it loose. At the end of the day the boss is the man who signs the checks I guess...

Two incredible videos that are a MUST SEE

I don't know what it is about little kids and car seats but they always do such ridiculous things in them. ALWAYS! Below is Fred. Fred is a young raver that is enjoying a morning drive in the laurie and enjoys listening to drum and bass. I make these faces all the time when the grimiest songs come through my speakers but this kid has it down.

Video number two was shown to me by some chicken who goes by the name of Ricktemus Markus Pricktemus Clitemus. I was laughing so hard during this video that I had to add it to this post. ENJOY!

Summer (Boner) Jams 05. Its a mixtape.

Summer Jam. That all important song that comes on your car stereo while you're driving to the beach/cruising the mall/at a bbq/ doing it. Every summer the Top 40 Dj/Gestapo start blasting whatever poppy song about the beach they declare as the Jam of the Summer. This year, it is undoubtedly Katy Perry's "California Girls." Blogger's note: This MSTRKRFT remix makes life much better.

I don't think that's necessarily what a summer jam should be. The song that represents your summer should be one that lets you ignore responsibility for 3+ minutes. It should feel like driving with the windows down even if you're stuck in a cubicle. It should remind you of that booty you've been chasing all summer! My Choice: An older song I've rediscovered, "Little Secrets" by Passion Pit.

And of course, the Summer Jam of ALLLLL Summer Jams. Seriously, if you don't know at least half of these lyrics, I don't want to know you exist:

PS Extra points to the Youtube user who uploaded that Summer Time vid, their Punch-Out intro is bangin'!

Grimestep

Long time, no post. But I think I'll make up for it with the goodies I'm bringing. Feast your ears on Gritt, and if his name doesn't tell you what to expect, I don't know what will. Hell Yeah is just one of those songs that makes you feel like the apocalypse is going to happen as soon as you press play (but in a good way, if that's possible). I think the best way to describe this one is to simply say that Hiroshima is LUCKY that we didn't decide to drop this on them instead, give it a listen and you'll know what I mean. Nowadays, what post would be complete without an Ellie Goulding remix? So that's what you're getting. Still heavy, but nowhere near as massive as Gritt, this remix of Lights by Eyes is sure to be a party favorite (kind of like Cheetos, or beer). Ok so now to take you back down to Earth a little bit, which is ironic because the band's name is Mansions On The Moon. Check out the video for She Makes Me Feel. I was going to just post the song, but I think it would be doing the song an injustice to post it without the music video, especially for the first time listening. To steal a line from film critics: "It is visually stunning." I just cannot stop listening to this song, and I think these guys are going to blow up in the very near future. Give it a shot and there is zero disappointment in your future my friends. I have to throw one more in just because the guy gets an A for comedic creativity with his name. Hoodie Allen is a fresh face in the rap game, and a lot of people that hear him think he sounds like Jay-Z vocally, which I don't hear but decide for yourself. All of you kids born in the late 80's are going to love some of his references too, Nicktoons anyone? Happy listening everyone!

Neon Hitch mashes it up

(Benny, Neon and a very large pitcher of mohito)

If you don't know about Neon yet then you might as well get on the wagon now and start bumpin her jams because if she was a bag of popcorn she would be poppin so loudly in your home microwave. Screw the microwave though and just put her in your speakers! Neon has quite the unique past compared to most of us, growing up a gypsy lifestyle in the England countryside, constantly traveling, avoiding the law, and not having many of the things we take for granted in our lives. I wish I could find the documentary of her when she was a youngin' but it is evading me at the moment. Over the 3-4 years that I have known and listened to Neon her voice has found its home and has developed beautifully. Her style is spot on for the covers/mashups below so please enjoy them as much as I did! I'm sure she has many thanks to give to Benny Blanco as he has worked with her on many of her songs and her debut album. I guarantee that you will hear about Neon again in the near future, maybe as soon as a year from now! Just this time last year I was seeing Ke$ha perform on a stage in front of maybe 100 people at most and now she's on tour with Rhianna, which is not selling out btw! I wonder why... maybe the video below will help. Thanks to my beautiful girlfriend Meredith for showing me the parody!
Below you'll also find a few mashups by Neon, one of which was just released today. They're all fantastic so peep them and hit the link to download them to your brain/computer.

Enter bass. Enter guitars. Enter old-western sounding whistle straight out of Three-stacks to Yuma. The Train Pt. 2 is just one of 15 reasons to cop Big Boi's current release Sir Lucious Left Foot Saves The Day. Backed by the Atlanta-based trio Organized Noize (see "So Fresh, So Clean, Player's Ball), Big Boi rips the countless posers in the rap-game . The production really does it for me, with an instrumental interlude making up a good portion of the song. And to stay in the Outkast groove, included below is the Chicago-based group Hypnotic Brass Ensembles rework of "SpottieOttieDopalicious" off their Heritage EP.

Droold

In an effort to expand our followers base I am going to begin writing about topics other than just music and media that are on my mind during any given day. Seeing as how I get a chubby every time a see a flashy/shiny new gadget I will certainly share my thoughts about the latest and greatest electronic goods.

First up will be the Droid X. The new Droid X was recently released on the Big Red (Verizon) to take on the iPhone4. In my opinion the iPhone is an incredible piece of technology but I just can't give up the amazing service and coverage I get with big red!!! Since my blackberry broke the week the Droid X was released I decided to wake up at 7AM on release day and get my hands on that 4.3" screen. Although the display is not as pretty as the iPhone, it is big! By big I mean no midget is holding this in one hand. The display is so large that it beats out most GPS navigation units and the google maps/navigation is unbelieavably perfect. Although the phone is tall it is very very thin from the side and a slight curve at the top helps hold on to the phone or pull it out of your tight ass pant pocket. Think, Motorola razor but with a whole lot of upgrades. On to the deets:
The Goodies:
  • 8 fucking mega pixel camera takes beautiful shots even in the dark with the assistance of not one, but TWO flashes! Overkill? no, just amazing. check out the sample below.
  • 4 physical buttons to orient you through the many apps and features the phone offers.
  • 1 1/8th inch headphone jack for any pair of regular headphones
  • 1 HDMI out, yes you just read hdmi. Cable isn't included with the phone but if you find yourself needing this feature you can scoop one up for $20.
  • 1 micro USB connection for loading everything you need onto this bad boy. The included 16GB memory card and the internal 8 Gb's are very legit and this adds up to a better purchase than the iphone. More memory for less mone
  • 512 Mb of Ram for multitasking
  • 720p video recording
  • Separate mic for noise cancellation as well as one more for video capture
  • FM radio! What? This is getting pretty excessive but I sure do like it
  • The ability to act as a hotspot for other electronic devices such as laptops and other smart phones (extra fee with Verizon)
  • So many apps that are quality and the majority are free
The Bad:
  • Freezes up some times, maybe once-twice a week
  • It is big, but this only gets in the way slightly like when I look in the mirror and it looks like a TI-83 is in my pocket
  • Usually need a charge mid day to keep the phone happy
  • Scared about dropping such a pretty phone
  • Display is not as glorious and beautiful as some other like the Incredible or the iPhone4
Overall:
Very pleased with the phone and with the Android 2.1 OS! Update is coming soon to the 2.2 I believe. Very pleased with my decision so far, it has come in so handy every single day since I have had it! The Android OS has caught up to Apple and the iPhone in such a short period of time and although it is not secure as the iPhone's software all it takes are some preventative measures and you can eliminate that threat by not visiting sketchy websites and downloading apps that don't have any reviews. Going from a blackberry I am very happy with the phone so much more to do when I'm in the bathroom :D

Test, Test, T-T-T-T-TEST

First Post. Stressed. Knuckles white. Sweat dripping down the back of my neck. Eyes Red. Pressure building. IBS flare up imminent. Must make grand introduction like nothing the world of indie-hip hop and folk-house-americana mash ups the world has ever seen.

So...I'll talk about why I don't think anyone should listen to Vampire Weekend. And by anyone, I mean you. Vampire fucking Weekend. I don't even care why they called it that, worst name ever. Werewolf Afternoon is way better. Nosferatu Night? Dracula Daytime? All of these > Vampire Weekend.

"But but but they are so original, their music is so new and different and pushing boundaries and" no. no no no. It is not different. It is twice apprehended! COPYING AND MOCKERY I TELL YOU.

Soweto or soukous rythms combined with pop music. Where have I heard this before.

BAM.

Quote from the lord of pop culture, wiki-pedia: "Vampire Weekend was dubbed the "whitest band" by Christian Lander, the creator of the site Stuff White People Like." Hipsters of the world, please take your jhorts elsewhere. Vampire f'ing Weekend just got pwned by Paul Simon. The entire "Graceland" album is better than anything some rich kids from Columbia University ever made.

PS. I could call you special sauce, and special sauce, you can call me Todd.
PPS. Sorry for the haterade, interwebs! From here on out its nothing but cream cheese and sunshine, word up.

LOLROFLOMG:D

Just got back from Ocean City this past weekend and was able to party it up proper style with the wonderful crowd that fills up OC for the summer! WOoOO.
While in Seacrets I was out getting wasted for $8/drink I was listening to the new top 40's and although OMG came out a little while ago it's still a bomb ass track! So here are to mixes of it that I was feeling, the first is by Vindata and just makes use of the chorus which is enough to get some people off. The second by Almighty is much more technoesque but it's got a lot more lyrics in it and gets pretty melodic to let you beat the beat up until it drops. Get your teeth knocked out dancing to these! Def. a fan of the melodic breakdowns myself, but this one is a bit too corny for my taste.
Scroll a bit and you'll find yourself in a land of Pharcyde. One of my favorite songs to pump the brakes to and drive slow to!

Still an Animal.

"Diwon is something else …in a profound kind of way. The New Yorker gets crafty when it comes to beats by extracting world music—mainly traditional Yemenite music-- and fusing it with electro hip hop; creating a titillating sound that’s juicy and for the ears. His musical influence developed from his migration from Yemen to Ethiopia to Israel". URB

Introduce to yourself to Diwon. His remix of Miike Snow's Animal should be a good first impression.

Let me tell you something, all that glitters ain't gold

Aloe Blacc's original version "I need a Dollar" has been making its rounds these past couple months around the internet to say the least. It's the theme song for HBO's How to Make it in America, which I happened to watch the entire first season in one day last month. Blacc is no one trick pony, putting out great music for the last 15 years and frequently jumping back and forth from Hip/hop to R&B, Blacc has an extremely soulful voice that paired with retro-production and dope lyricism always leads to a great listen. Recently I came across a subtle remix from French producer Stern* that adds some bass, turns up the tempo a bit, and maybe adds some happiness into a poor man's ode.

Mashups have been jumping into the poop like crazy and peeing in it even though they know they shouldn't. But this one makes me happy that mashups exist, RJD2 x Jurrasic 5
What's Golden has lyrics that just don't stop and are perfect for the feel of RJD2.
Somebody needs to mashup Starwars and Jurassic Park now and make what would be known as the bests movie during the reign of man kind!!!!!

Keep talking that chat Gucci Mane

So Gucci Man is out of jail and boy he's got some cars up his sleeve now! His future plans include
  1. "Start up Brick Squad Records record label."
  2. "Begin recording with rapper Wacka Flocka Flame in the near future.
  3. Tour the nation being the G he is
Mad Decent made a shirt to celebrate the occasion right ova hiya
PREVIEW@!#@!....Keeeeeeeeep scroooooooooling

Mad Decent's own Diplo created something called the Cold War mixtapes
The mixtapes make's work of Gucci's lyrics
example: "I just shitted on your ride, but my nikes match my necklace and my necklace match my rims...something. blow my nose, probation GUCCI." Well if you didn't know anything about gucci you now know everything that you need to!
Ignoring the mixtape is hard though, highlighting names like Bird Peterson, Douster, Benzi aka Mr. Get Right & Willy Joy, Brodinski, Flying lotus as well as a handful more. YEahhhhhHHHHH
It's worth the free download though, because it's entertaining as hell and the production work is top shelf as well as the gltiches, pops, synths, breaks and the basslines that make you want to smoke crack. SKEEERTTTTTTT

Break it down.

Off Big Boi's upcoming album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, here is a funkadelic, narty and old Outkastesque summer jam Shutterbugg. Surprisingly, its produced by Scott Storch who must have finally realized that he needs to produce to get out of the red. Nevertheless, get ready to start dancing in your chair.
Big Boi - Shutterbugg

There's something about Crystal Castles that I've always really enjoyed even though I can't pinpoint it. Going of Levo's previous post I figured I put up another mix featuring Rihanna, which combines Rude Boy and CC's Baptism. If you haven't checked out The Hood Internet by now.....get on the train.
Rude Baptism- Rihanna vs. Crystal Castles(The Hood Internet)

Rhianna likes it rude

Rhianna has already had an experience with a rude boy so I'm not sure why this song is about her getting beat up. I guess some girls just like it dirty and rude like that. Thanks Chris Brown for the inspiration! Anyways, here's a remix which makes the original seem like a bag of mulch. TC brings the remix heavy and dirty, like a bag of manure, but nicer than that. The video is below and the track itself is below that with the link to the download spot. Enjoy the weekend everyone! even though you probably have like 10 finals tomorrow.

Starry Eyed

A bit late with these remixes of Starry Eyed by Ellie Goulding but it'll be worth posting them up regardless. Ellie is from England and has been on the seen since 2009 and her track "Starry Eyed" has grabbed the attention of many producers and dj's for it's catchy lyrics and soft melodies that are already infused with a really great feeling electric rhythm. The original track already has some small remix treasures seeing as how Starsmith a well known remixer and composer from the UK. He's worked with the likes of Katy Perry, Little Boots, Passion Pit, Paloma Faith, Marina and the Diamonds, Lady Gaga, Boy Crisis, The Twang and Frankmusik. Below you'll find two remixes of the track both of them being pretty amazing in their own ways. The Russ Chimes mix has a much more trance/electric feel to it and is much faster but I love the piano breakdowns in it so much, really such a body mover! The Jakwob remix is personally my favorite because I love the heavy bass way too much. I mean it's got the dub-drop half way through the track and it rocks so hard, makes my whole body bob to the beat. Not as much for the club but just as much for the right type of club scene!!! Speaking of heavy bass, there's nothing like some Bassnectar. Also, if you don't have a bass somewhere in your casa better rethink your life because bass is the essence of a song. Check out the heavy drop of the Fever Ray remix by Bassnectar at the bottom of these tracks, and the video for Starry Eyed!

You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having

What's up all? New poster here and when I first logged in I saw there were no Atmosphere posts! What's the deal with that? Atmosphere is a duo from Minne-snow-ta consisting of rapper, Slug, and producer, Ant. Don't be thrown off by the insect misnomers, they're pretty much the premier artists for the label Rhymesayers. They're a unique duo with more floe than an iceberg and I attribute it to the tailor-made beats to the lyrics. They have this interesting, ongoing thing where they intro some songs with a few bars about some girl meeting the devil so ignore that on Modern Man's Hustle and I guarantee you'll dig the track. Next up is a Swedish band called The Sounds. They're fronted by a lovely young Swedish woman (tall, blonde, amazing stage presence), and they usually start their songs out rockin' and eventually move into a hot mess of danceable magic. Another group I want to throw at you is The Faint. I used to listen to these guys back in high school and recently rediscovered them through a chance encounter with a Paul Oakenfold remix of Glass Danse. They're definitely different (considering Conor Oberst used to be in the band, and they're on his label explains a lot) but they definitely know how to crank out some noise. I'm also pretty sure they don't have a 'c' key.

And now a riddle...
Q. How do you make a Rhymesayers song better?
A. Turn it into a Sufjan Stevens mashup. - Get the entire mixtape here:

MIA

So after being gone from the music scene for a little while due to maternity leave M.I.A has come back a different woman. Like many artists, M.I.A has grown up and left the silly Gangalng/Paper Planes episode of her life and will most likely be making music with a different intent now. Her recently surfaced video has a lot of buzz around it right now and it is being taken down from some sites because viewers find it pretty disturbing. In my opinion it's quite an eye opener! M.I.A doesn't make a physical appearance in it but her voice guides the camera along. I won't try to go into what I think this video means but I'll leave you with it below so you can watch for yourself. Also for your listening pleasure below is Tic Toc with Rye Rye and M.I.A. throwing the verses at you.
