Let me tell you something, all that glitters ain't gold

Aloe Blacc's original version "I need a Dollar" has been making its rounds these past couple months around the internet to say the least. It's the theme song for HBO's How to Make it in America, which I happened to watch the entire first season in one day last month. Blacc is no one trick pony, putting out great music for the last 15 years and frequently jumping back and forth from Hip/hop to R&B, Blacc has an extremely soulful voice that paired with retro-production and dope lyricism always leads to a great listen. Recently I came across a subtle remix from French producer Stern* that adds some bass, turns up the tempo a bit, and maybe adds some happiness into a poor man's ode.

Above Max Tannone, the producer behind Jaydiohead, mixes Blackstar with some old school reggae. You can get the entire album Mos Dub, here.

Smooth Sailing

This song's been all over the net recently but that isn't gonna stop me from putting this up here. Stephen Marley and Mos Def link up for what is of course a great listen. Not sure if there is a video for this but you can bet this song warrants a classic Marley video; black and white montage of Mos and Stephen walking throughout the streets of Jamaica.

"GET IT"

Saturday, June 6

And you best believe he's got two capital letters in his first name

LOL Reading Raindow. 1st off new Mickey Factz and Kid Cudi banger followed up by a track off of Mos Def's new album Esctatic, which is out now depending on where you look for it. And at last, although not a huge fan of him, some new Charles Hamilton, where he spits some depressing shit but I like both the beat and CH on it. Happy Friday everyone.

Live Dopeness

So I was just about to sleep, when this was spotted over at It's all the way live. The Mighty goes in, 12 minutes long, on Kanye's "Say You Will". Recorded live at the legendary blues club, The Blue Note, Mos Def sings and spits brilliance backed up by the RCDC experiment(Robert Glasper, Chris Dave, Casey Benjamin & Derrick Hodge). Thanks again to It's all the way live.
